The stone statue of Saint Cécile stands in a frame on the right façade of the Madeleine.
Saint Cécile is one of the very early saints, having lived around 200 a.d.
She is thought to be the origin of church music and this statue by Auguste Dumont (1842) shows her with a large writing feather in her right hand and a harp cradling in her left arm.

Principal group of figures of Fontaine Saint-Michel
The dark bronze statue of St Michael fighting the Devil by Francisque Duret (1860) is the centre piece of the Fontaine Saint-Michel in the 5th arrondissement. Saint Michael with his large wings towers over a fallen devil lying on a rock. With one hand he points up to the sky, in the other he holds his sword ready to strike his adversary.
He is wearing a Roman-style uniform with breast-plate and short skirt.
The rock has been sculpted by Félix Saupin.
